TNT Post has launched the UK’s first Mobile Internet enabled carbon calculator for its employees. The Mobile Carbon Calculator allows individuals to calculate and measure carbon emissions, access tips to reduce their footprint, and offset through the Woodland Trust’s tree planting programme.
Powered by KODIME's ZOOMtxt PRO software solution, the new Mobile Carbon Calculator is the latest initiative in TNT's commitment to becoming the lowest carbon emission mailing company. To help encourage employees to take action at home and in their personal lives, TNT Post wanted to develop a product that could be used anytime, anywhere, taking into account the significant percentage of employees not office based with computer access. Utilising the experience with the ZOOMtxt software of TNT Post’s existing mobile phone marketing and recruitment campaigns, staff can now access the calculator simply by texting CALC to 60123. This results in an instant SMS message response linking directly to the calculator where staff can use the advice articles to cut their carbon footprints and track their carbon cutting progress. Users who wish to offset their carbon emissions can then do so by making secure tax-free donations to the leading woodland conservation charity, Woodland Trust, through their mobile phone bill or via a PayPal Mobile link. TNT Post plans to launch the Mobile Carbon Calculator to its customers and prospective customers later this year. |

Britons send 1bn SMS/text messages - weekly |

With the SMS / txt revolution apparently unstoppable, Britons are now sending more than one billion text messages per week, according to the latest figures from the Mobile Data Association (MDA).
The figure is 25% higher than a year ago and is set to shatter forecasts for how many text messages have been sent to and from handsets this year.
That weekly total is the same as the number sent during the whole of 1999.
Some 4.8bn texts were sent in September 2007, equivalent to 4,000 every second.
"It has exceeded our forecasts quite significantly," said Mike Short, head of the MDA.
The total for 2007 looks set to reach 52 billion, he said. This was far in excess of the 42-48 billion the MDA previously predicted would be sent this year. Nico Köpke, CEO of KODIME Ltd, commented: "Consumers continue to embrace mobile as their most favourite and personal digital channel. While email and instant messaging are also growing on newer mobile handsets, SMS texting remains the #1 killer application for any interaction, whether peer-to-peer or business-to-consumer. The increased buzz and visibility of the mobile internet combined with these astonishing levels of SMS traffic mean that mobile marketing and commerce are fully on target to achieve their full potential." |

Mobile for interactive dance performance |
ZOOMtxt is empowering Texterritory to create new interactive performances with artist and audience linked together through the medium of text messaging, creating a truly unique artistic experience.
Texterritory is an exciting cross-media project around a dance theatre piece developed by artist and choreographer Sheron Wray and digital artist Fleeta Siegel.
The use of interactive text messaging through ZOOMtxt allows the audience to become intimately involved in the changing storyline and action on stage, thus allowing every performance to be unique.

As the seal hunting season starts in Canada, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) launches a major SMS campaign throughout the UK. The Campaign, powered by ZOOMtxt, sets out to raise awareness about cruelty to animals and shows a baby seal about to be slaughtered. Supporters are asked to back them in their fight by texting 'Ban it' to a shortcode. Results so far are great.
The emotional ad campaign appears in selected British newspapers and on the London Tube network, inviting mobile users to back the campaign by sending a text containing the words 'Ban It' to 60123. More than ten thousand consumers have already voiced their support for the IFAW campaign via text response. A full case study will be available here soon. |
